To be released March 3, 2009, Streetwise/Dubwise provides a fresh approach to experience reggae music. In addition to the Courtney John and Ce’Cile single which is available today, producer Kirk Bennet brings together Anthony B, Toots Hibbert (of Toots & The Maytals), Mr. Vegas, sax maestro Dean Fraser, dancehall artist Determine and others in a unique blend of crucial groovy reggae vibes on the album itself. This time however, Bennett steps out of the traditional producer role and takes the music to places it hasn’t been seen in years. Combining the essence of Kingston, Jamaica’s street culture and the dub/remix genre, Streetwise/Dubwise presents a clever and thoughtful take on current reggae and dancehall music.
On “Peanut Man” Toots Hibbert and Kirkle Dove create a refreshing international sound by fusing vintage vibes with modern production. The track “River Bed”, featuring Aisha Davis, is Bennett’s dub reprise of his smash Dutchpot Riddim, the same riddim that launched Mr Vegas hit “Tek Weh Yuhself” in 2008, and is sure to take over the dancefloor again. Not to be left out, Mr. Vegas returns with “Daggering”, a playful, mento induced track to make even the stiffest of hips move to the beat. In short, Streetwise/Dubwise will have something for reggae fans looking for a new sound, dub fans waiting for the next Jamaican dub producer to make a mark and dance goers hunting for original beats to move along to. The movement begins today with Ce’Cile and Courtney John’s “Give It To Me”. Streetwise/Dubwise drops March 3, 2009.
