Vivian “Yabby You” Jackson passed away only recently, but his legacy is already assured. Yabby You Music and Zojak World Wide are pleased to present the release of Legacy, a 25-track collection of crucial Vivian Jackson productions. Set to be featured May 4th, 2010 on iTunes and available via e-tailers worldwide, Legacy spans the entire career of the legendary artist/producer and features songs digitally re-mastered by world-renowned engineer, James "Bonzai" Caruso (4-time Grammy winner for Damian Marley's Welcome to Jamrock and Stephen Marley's Mind Control). An active Christian throughout his life, Yabby You, or Jesus Dread, as he was sometimes known, set himself apart from his mostly Rastafarian contemporaries. However, it was his music that would make an even more lasting impression.
Legacy opens appropriately with Vivan Jackson’s breakthrough song, Conquering Lion. Recorded for legendary producer King Tubby in 1972, “Conquering Lion” established Vivian Jackson as a signature voice of roots reggae and gave him the nickname Yabby You heard in the song’s now iconic introduction, “Be-you, Yabby-Yabby-you”. Many of the hits that followed are included on this one-of-a-kind collection, classics like “Run Come Rally”, “Love Thy Neighbor” and “Warn The Nation”. Indeed, Yabby You followed in King Tubby’s footsteps, becoming a legendary producer himself, applying his unique sound to artists and musicians alike including Wayne Wade (“Fire Fire”), Dillinger (“Freshly”), Tommy McCook (Revenge”) and Trinity & Dillinger’s tribute “Jesus Dread”. Completing the album is Yabby You’s combination with Big Youth, “Yabby Youth”, which has Big Youth deejaying on top of the “Conquering Lion” track and brings us full circle.
Emotional and full of righteousness, Yabby You’s Legacy combines music and message and is as extraordinary today as when he first recorded “Conquering Lion” in 1972. On this special release, digitally re-mastered to capture his unique and unparalleled sound, the spirit of his music and message is made all the more powerful.
