MAY 11, 2010 ITATION RECORDS TO RELEASE CLEARLY RIDDIM. FREE DOWNLOAD

Following the amazing reception worldwide to the first singles released on the riddim, Kali Blaxx’ “Nah Trust Dem” and “Be What You Want To Be” from Pressure earlier this month, Itation Records is pleased to announce that on May 11, 2010 Itation will release the complete set of 17 crucial tracks on the Clearly Riddim. Another creative partnership between Itation and the Tune In Crew production team, the Clearly riddim will light the way among roots and kulcha reggae fans for a long time to come. The Clearly Riddim is Itation's first riddim release since winning UnitedReggae.com's Roots Riddim of the Year for its World Go Round Riddim in 2008.

Kali Blaxx and Pressure, first heard on KISS 100 (London), ZIP FM (Jamaica), Boston’s 97.7, WVIP (New York), CHRY (Toronto), Generations 88.2 (Paris) and WLRN (Miami), launched intense international demand for the riddim from such locales as France, the UK and the USA. And now, the powerful music and the messages of Lutan Fyah, Fanton Mojah, Mega Banton, Delly Ranx, Al Pancho and many more can now be heard as well.

New soul roots single from Toussaint & I-Grade Records, "Be You", now on radio and 4/20 on iTunes

Brand new single from I Grade Records recording artist, Toussaint, is set to protect the soul and defend the roots. "Be You" is the first single from the upcoming album, Roots In A Modern Time.
(April 5, 2010) With a husky tenor that is the epitome of soul and a unique ability to link soul with roots, hip hop gospel and blues, Toussaint's sound continues to live up to his nickname, The Liberator. While liberated from any boundaries of form or genre, Toussaint remains grounded in soul and roots music. And with an epic album from I Grade Records on tap, Toussaint is poised to break new ground worldwide. "Be You", the first single to be released from the forthcoming album, Roots In A Modern Time, is already taking roots and soul to another level. "Be You" will be available on iTunes on 4/20 (April 20) and the album drops this summer.

Toussaint has spent his entire life at the musical crossroads, always breaking new ground along the way. The son of a Baptist preacher and gospel singer, Toussaint nurtured his craft in the church at a young age before finding his own voice in the compelling lyrics and artistic independence of the hip-hop group Red Pill, the funk reggae oufit The China Band, the rock and soul of The Trama Unit, and most notably during the two years he spent as lead singer with legendary Stax Records and Blue Note recording group, Soulive.

Connecting with Virgin Islands-based I Grade Records-the label responsible for setting a new standard for roots reggae through critically acclaimed albums like Dezarie's "Fya", Niyorah's "Purification Session" and Midnite's "Assini"-puts both I Grade and Toussaint at the crossroads. Indeed, their upcoming abum, Roots In A Modern Time (set for a summer 2010 release) will be a defining moment for soul reggae and music fans everywhere.

WORLD PREMIER (MARCH 18-23) OF "HOW WE RIDE" BY ERUP STARTS IN JAMAICA AND CONTINUES WORLDWIDE

Truckback Records is pleased to announce the World Premier of the new single by Erup, "How We Ride", a 'dancehall rock' follow up to the Billboard hit, "Click My Finger". Join us for the special premier on the dial or online Thursday March 18 to Monday March 22. ZJ Johnny Khool will be the first to "ride" as we go from Jamaica, London, Toronto, Tokyo, New York, Miami, San Francisco and back again.

"How We Ride" follows up on the Billboard charting song "Click Mi Finger" Erup recorded on Truckback's Gearbox Riddim which was a ground breaking project in its own right.

This time, Truckback is again breaking barriers as "How We Ride" takes a new turn for dancehall, and Jamaican music in general, with straight ahead rock guitar lines going toe to toe with Erup's signature laid back dancehall lyrics and Truckback's driving drum and bass. Reminiscent of the fuzz guitar FX from 70s psychedelic rock bands, "How We Ride" crosses time and musical genres to create a new sound for a new generation of music fans.

Set to be released Tuesday, March 23rd on the Greensleeves' release, Ragga Ragga Ragga, and to radio world wide, hear it first here:

TRUCKBACK RECORDS GETS LOVE FROM XLR8R MAGAZINE

XLR8R Magazine, known for "accelerating music and culture", has recognized TRUCKBACK RECORDS as part of its annual "Labels We Love" series. XLR8R (pronounced "accelerator") is a magazine and website that covers music, culture, style, and technology. While XLR8R’s initial focus was on electronic music, it has over the years widened its scope to include indie rock, hip-hop, and reggae/ dancehall music as well as related trends in style, art, fashion, and technology. XLR8R’s website, xlr8r.com, features breaking music and culture news as well as high-resolution music videos and free weekly MP3 downloads and podcasts.

CLICK HERE TO GO TO XLR8R MAGAZINE WEBSITE

While Jamaican culture is known for its ingenuity, Truckback Records has taken resourcefulness to an entirely new level. Founded by brothers Steve, Andrew and Adrian Locke, Truckback Records is just what it claims to be, a recording studio built inside the cargo compartment of a retired (but still working) container truck. That was in 2006. And since then, Truckback has grown up fast. The Gearbox Riddim notched two #1 songs in Jamaica (Erup “Click My Finger”, Harry Toddler “Don’t Run In”), a spot on the Billboard Hot 100 R&B/Hip Hop chart (Erup “Click My Finger”) as well top ten hits in London, New York, Miami and Japan, “Rhythm of the Year” nominations in 2007 and 2008 as well as a nod for 2008 Producer of the Year by the EME and HYPE-TV Awards committees. Shout outs from Fader and XLR8R magazines have minted the studio’s unique place in reggae and dance culture worldwide.

Despite its success, TruckBack still runs on the grassroots, creative energies of brothers Steve and Adrian Locke, proof of which is evident in projects like the Ole Axle (2008), Clutch (2008), Springblade (late 2008) and Dash Board (2009) riddims as well as their innovative roots project featuring the conscious DJ, Baijie. In the meantime, TruckBack will be driving reggae, dancehall and simply good music to new levels on the way.

POIRIER ready for Europe dates with MC Zulu - don't miss out

While many struggle to label his sound as either dancehall, soca, or electro, Poirier, signed to Ninja Tune, takes just what he needs leaving a trail of packed, chaotic dance floors in his wake.

Fresh off touring in support of the "Soca Sound System" EP (which saw him traveling the world solo and with Daedelus, South Rakkas Crew, and others), Poirier is shifting gears to run riddims.

In advance of his next EP "Run The Riddim" (September), which will feature cuts with Jamaican dancehall legend Burro Banton, long time collaborators Face T & MC Zulu, as well as UK reggae sensation YT, Poirier is hitting UK/Europe with MC Zulu.

Run The Riddim
is the 2nd in a series of 3 EP's being released this year, all leading up to Poirier's album release in 2010.

POIRIER feat. MC ZULU EUROPE DATES...

7/10 - FABRIC - room 1 / London, UK
7/11 - Montreux Jazz Festival / Montreux, Switzerland
7/12 - Splash Festival / Leipzig, Germany
7/15 - KB18 / Copenhagen, Denmark
7/16 - Dour Festival / Dour, Belgium
7/17 - D:qliq / Luxembourg
7/18 - Glade Festival / Winchester, UK

"Montreal’s indie guitar bands got plenty of coverage last year, but in 2008 they might be usurped by Ninja Tune-signed hip-hop producer Poirier. The French-Canuck connoisseur of grime, booty bass, ragga and “world riddum idioms” makes music that is accessible, innovative and above all danceable."

JAMAICA GLEANER ARTICLE: Bunny Wailer's 'Blackheart Man' remastered

Published: Monday | June 15, 2009
Mel Cooke, Gleaner Writer

Thirty-three years after it was made, Bunny Wailer's classic, Blackheart Man, album, has been given a crisp digital remastering and is being reissued, initially via download, Zojack Worldwide handling the arrangements.

Some of the songs are longer than when they were first released in 1976 as Bunny Wailer, who told The Gleaner he is responsible for the project, has added dub tracks to some of the original songs ("So you can get a little bit for your money, a little bit more for your listening," Bunny Wailer says). Apart from those additions, the songs have been kept strictly original, with the sound being improved.

The track listing has been kept the same, so the 10-track Blackheart Man starts out with the title track and continues with Fighting Against Conviction, The Oppressed Song, Fig Tree, Dream Land, Rastaman, Reincarnated Souls, Amagideon (Armageddon), Bide Up and This Train.

Wailer says, "We start out with the most current medium, which is downloading, that is where everything revolutionise in the whole business, so there is the first approach to get the Blackheart Man and the whole Bunny Wailer catalogue back in the streets."
